To be honest, the only time I'm really Paris bleu, is when I'm leaving!

L'homme et la bouteille

Early evening I was doing a walking photography tour on the Île Saint-Louis with Meredith Mullins.  We stopped to look over the wall and this is what we found.  We debated about the wrapper on the bench and Meredith offered to run down and move it, but we decided the moment would be lost. To quote Meredith's wonderful book....another  Paris Moment!

The Art of the Wait

Most of time I'm in Paris, I seem to find myself on this frantic photo hunt. I try to slow down but somehow I'm always feeling the clock ticking away the days, the hours, the minutes till I must leave again. I haven't been able to overcome that need to get just one more image to carry home with me.

I have been privileged to meet and work with American/Parisien photographer Meredith Mullins. When I first discovered  her book In a Paris Moment, I found an interview where she spoke of "the art of the wait", when you sit and take the time for that someone to walk into your photograph that takes it to another level.   I think about that wonderful advice so often, and sometimes I think I pull it off, usually by sheer luck.  Today, an example of waiting.... until this  boy and his poppa made it happen.

Madames et Monsieurs, We Have a Winner!!

Well I think I might have potential as a game show host in my future!  This has been a lot of fun.  We do indeed have a winner to my latest "What Is It? Where Is It?.................our very own Dusty Lens has done it again.  He correctly guessed the *Pont d'Arcole.   DL, your fabulous prizes are mounting up my friend.  We also have a runner up this time, my former student Rip.  Rip is just going into 6th grade and I think if you read his comment you can see he did an excellent job researching the photo.  As a new "Shades Cahaba alumna" Rip will also get a prize.  BTW, Rip was in my class when I went to Paris for the first time.  He endured many many viewings of my Paris movie and endless photos, tales etc.  I went in March of 2007 and Rip and his family went in May of that year. We are both hopeless Francophiles as is the rest of his family. Congrats to DL and Rip!

Watch for the next contest. I have one ready to post in the next few days.

* A very special thanks to Meredith Mullins for verifying the correct bridge for me.

Guess Where We Went Today III ? - The Bird/Flower Market

This afternoon we visited the famous Bird/Fleur Market near Notre Dame. The children had a fabulous time seeing the birds, fish and assorted rabbits, guinea pigs etc. Melissa and I enjoyed the flowers and the quaint gift shops. After that, we ventured across the bridge to Ile St. Louis. Well that was another crowd fest. In a city like Paris, you can get some fabulous glacé on every corner. We were amazed at the long long lines of people queing up for it at a few select shops there today. We did a little window shopping and then crossed back to Notre Dame. Forget getting to see inside that lovely cathedral this time of year. The lines were half way around the block. Not to worry, we found a park and the playground we had visited two years ago. Eva and Davis had some fun on the seesaw and we got a much needed rest! After an unusual encounter in the Metro which I cannot publish on this blog, we made our way home around 6:00.

Tomorrow Peter and I are off to the Paris Flea Market and Melissa and the children are meeting Birmingham friends who arrived today. Tomorrow night I am joining American photographer Meredith Mullins ( see the sidebar) for a photography tour. Stay tuned!
