Well if you stay in Paris long enough you know all about Serge Gainsbourg. I guess we missed the film but maybe I can catch it on DVD later. And as you all know, my French is so great,

Serge is not really one of my favorites, but I like some of his stuff.
ReplyDeleteI have some 45s of Serge Gainsbourg from the time before I came to the US. I did not enjoy his voice that much but I liked his songs. I also like his wife but she does not have much of a voice- but she is sweet. My favorite French singer was and is Charles Aznavour.

She is in her mid-sixties but very frail and weak, which shows harshly on her face and body structure. I thought of Toulouse Lautrec when taking her portrait. Concerning Vagabonde's comment: His ex-wife (he remarried), Jane Birkin (who also remarried), goes on singing, niceley, with her little voice! Their daughter Charlotte is today a remarkable film actress - who also sings!
