The Sofa Toters

This is the third photo in what has become a little Toter Series ( and I didn't even try to translate that into French.)  The first some of you will remember, were the Toliette Toters, then we had the Mattress Toter.

As Mary and I sat sipping our wine after a very long afternoon at Père Lachaise, these three guys paraded right in front of us. There was a Métro just down the street. SURELY they didn't try that!

The Mattress Toter

If you've been following this blog for a long time, you might remember this scene, taken in June 2010, when I happened upon two gentlemen toting a brand new toilette home.  The whole scene was so hilarious, I must have followed them for half a block quickly documenting their journey.   In Paris, where many Parisians have no cars, home delivery of large items must be complicated and costly, hence... the toters.

Well what are the chances that I would happen upon another last January, again in the Marais!!! This time, a new mattress was being pushed down rue Saint Antoine!  And to think that some people ask me why I return to Paris, over and over.

Les Toillete Toters

As most of you know, Paris has some traffic/parking issues. I don't have the numbers but I would guess that most Parisians use the Metro, bus, bicycles or motorbikes. The rest have cars and try and squeeze them in every imaginable crevice on the streets. I'm sure not having a car saves the average citizen many Euros and a lot of hassle. That said, I 'm thinking there are times when a car might come in handy. Case in point: You need a new toilette for your flat. Now how do you get it home? I ran up on these two fellows in the Marais and as I followed behind them I couldn't help but laugh and snap as many photos as I could. That's what friends are for, oui?
