Paris Rouge - Football!

Place Stravinsky, around the Stravinsky Fountain is just another playground for Parisian kids it seems. After school, you can find a crowd playing football (aka soccer)!

Spread Your Wings

Niki de Saint Phalle et Jean Tinguely's colorful sculpture at the Stravinsky Fountain is always a photo op when visiting le Centre Pompidou.

Dusk

Resting at a café, waiting for Mary, was a good time to enjoy nightfall at the bustling Stravinsky Fountain and the Centre Pompidou

Football à la fontaine Stravinsky

The plaza around the Stravinsky Fountain at Centre Pompidou is usually full of Parisian school kids just having fun in the afternoons.  I love the backdrop of the beautiful old Saint Merri Church.

Crépuscule au Pompidou

From a cafe table overlooking the Stravinsky Fountain, the Centre Pompidou twinkled in the twilight.

L'Oisneau de Feu

L'Oisneau de Feu

I have a love /hate feeling about the Stravinsky Fountain.  Although I deep down really love the vibrant colored sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle and her husband Jean Tinguely, the black pieces don't seem to fit there. In addition, I don't think I've ever seen the fountain when all of the sculptures were working and moving as it was designed.  That said, this evening when the Église Saint-Merri was warmly lit, it makes a striking image against this 14th century church.

La lumière dans la fenêtre

I was sitting at a café overlooking the Stravinsky Plaza and Fountain early one evening and while some kids kicked a soccer ball around I looked up and saw the light in those windows.  Oh my.  I always love to imagine what's going on inside!

Peter has done a nice job posting more about the church there on the left,  l'Église Saint -Merri right here.

Sunday Church Series - The Players

As evening fell I sat outside with a cup of espresso, grateful for the outdoor heater.  I could have found a table inside but would not have been able to enjoy this informal game of soccer on the Place Stravinsky.  The side of the beautiful Église Saint-Merri was an interesting backdrop.

World Cup Mania......Redux

I'm sure JB will point out that I'm about two months late with these photos. He's liable to also add that his visit to Paris caused him to miss one whole day and night of the mind numbing, never ending thrilling soccer semifinals of the World Cup. One afternoon, while the big boys were sipping beverages and cursing the French team unmercifully at the café below, the little boys were having a delightful, free spirited pickup game on the plaza around the Stravinsky Fountain. Boys will be boys!

La Refléxion

This was a delightful afternoon. We sat outside with our wine and watched the school children happily playing all around the Stravinsky Fountain at the Centre Pompidou. This lady was seated at the next table, but I took this shot of her reflection in the mirrored panel beside the doorway to the café.

The Funkiest Fountain in Paris

Yesterday, I promised you another trip to the Centre Georges Pompidou. Here we are at the Stravinsky Fountain. When Niki de Saint Phalle and Tinguely collaborate, it's going to be something funky, colorful, and fun! Created in 1982, it consists of 16 mechanical sculptures, inspired by Stravinsky, all gyrating and blowing water. As I've said before......only in Paris.
So are you still wondering why I LOVE Paris??? It's a thrill a minute!

How hilarious and fun it this????

Paris Bleu - Part I

I can't help myself. The series BLEU has been in the making here in Paris for some time.
Today Part I. Oh but there will be more!

Rue de Bac

Stravinsky Fountain - Centre Pompidou
Niki de Saint Phalle/ Tinguely - artists

The Musee Marmottan Monet is an absolute MUST SEE in Paris. It houses the largest collection of Monet's work. We were not allowed to photograph inside so this is my contribution as a bleu photo!

Tile Floor - Charles de Gaulle Airport
( Did Matisse fly Air France?)

You might have noticed that my photos are larger now. Merci beaucoup Peter for so patiently fiddling with my laptop and showing my how to change the settings!!!
