Il est autorise de fumer

Well for now, but Monsieur seems to be getting the evil eye for lighting his pipe outside the Musée d'Orsay!

Sketching

French Stranger #69

The Musée d'Orsay is a grand place for artists and students alike to have some quiet time to sit and sketch.  Last summer, I chatted with this American student, taking a fe minutes to capture a memory on paper.

The Pose

At first I muttered something under my breath when this obvious touriste stepped into my shot. After seeing it again on my computer.............I had to laugh!!!

Musée d'Orsay, Les Sculptures

As a rule I shy away from photographing great works of art. I feel that they should be viewed in person and certainly my photographs could never do them justice. I've made an exception today, but perhaps I shouldn't have. I'm not sure. That said, here I am posting two pieces from the Musée d'Orsay. I liked the sculpture against the architectural details of this former railway station turned fabulous museum. At least I didn't have someone take my photo standing in front of them!

Musée d'Orsay, les horloges

The Musée d'Orsay, the former Gare d'Orsay has fortunately kept the open feel of its former life as a railway station , and its fabulous clocks! With an extensive collection of Impressionist paintings this museum should be at the top of your list. It's smaller than la Louvre, and I've always found it to be very easy to navigate and enjoy! Don't forget to have lunch here.

Guess Where I Went? - Musee d'Orsay

Max Ernst Exhibit
( A nod to Marie-Noyale at Larchmont Daily Photo who inspired me with her terrific museum shots.)

If the thought of "doing the Louvre" intimidates you, then the Musee d'Orsay is a must see when visiting Paris. The moment you walk in you realize that in its previous life, this museum was once a very fine train station! Reopened in 1986, its collection of Impressionist paintings is impressive as is the sculpture that amazingly is displayed in easy reach, but I wouldn't suggest "touching"! I took a break and had a lovely lunch at the gorgeous turn of the century restaurant. All in all, a great way to spend the day in Paris.

Oh I know you've seen this clock a zillion times ( in every picture frame in Target, right?) but I just had to take one more shot.

A scale model of Paris that you can actually walk on. It is fascinating to see the "aerial" view.

Yet another famous clock. Here you get the feel of its prior life as a train station.
