Sunday Church Series - Remembering

On Monday, following the terrorist attacks on Friday evening, I slipped into the majestic Église de la Madeleine. There was a noon mass in process. Candles were lit all around the church. I suspect there were more than usual.

Looking Down

Most visitors think that the only views of Paris from high above must be from the Eiffel Tower or the Sacre Coeur. Luckily for me, I have some pretty savvy friends,  and I've learned to love the rooftop decks of Galleries Lafayette and Printemps . This view of the beautiful Madeleine Church was taken from Printemps' rooftop deck.  Merci Peter Olson!

Sunday Church Series - La Madeleine

This has to be one of the most exquisite altars in Paris.  This summer evening we readied for a beautiful choral concert as part of Fête de la Musique.  The accoustics in this enormous space were perfect.

Sunday Church Series - La Madeleine

Taken from my seat as we awaited the choral concert at this beautiful church, as part of the Fête de la Musique . This festival of music which is held on June 21st, originated in France in 1982, but now is celebrated all over the world. La Madeleine was a spectacular venue for the choral concert. The acoustics were amazing.

La Madeleine

Today's Sunday Churches of Paris is the beautiful Église de la Madeleine, named in honor of St. Mary Magdalene. We were fortunate to be in Paris during the Fête de la Musique. Genie, Marie and I attended a choral concert of classical music there in the evening. Hearing the voices of sixteen young women in this exquisite setting was a night I will never forget. I took this photograph shortly before the concert began.
