Sunday Church Series - Basilique royale de Saint-Denis

This is a church that  you must put on your list when visiting Paris. The resting place of most of France's royalty and their families, it is considered the royal necropolis of France.  Located in a northern suburb of Paris, it is one of the most beautiful churches I've visited in Paris.

Sunday Church Series - Basilique Cathèdrale de Saint Denis

This beautiful medieval abbey church, built in the Gothic style is often called the today "royal necropolis of France", as it was the burial place for the kings and their families for centuries. Located in the northern suburb of Saint Denis, it is a Metro ride and the stop if near the church. I highly recommend if you have the time in your stay in Paris for a short side trip.

Sunday Chuch Series - Le vitrail reflet

The afternoon light streaming into Basilique Saint Denis, took my breath. The final resting place of almost every king of France from the 10th-18th centuries, this is believed to be the first Gothic church ever built.  Located in the northern suburb of St. Denis, it's about a half hour Métro ride, but the stop is very near the church.  This is a must see for return visitors to Paris or those lucky to have an extended stay.

La crèche

This crèche at the Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis is one of the most unusual I've seen anywhere in Paris.  If I didn't know better, I'd think les petits enfants had been rearranging the figures.

Camera Guy

The day we all visited Saint - Denis, I spotted this photographer with his sights set on something very HIGH.  We were a little pressed for time,  or I would have walked right up and found out. I might have gotten to look through his lens.  You know how I love a stranger!

Sunday Church Series - Des amis fidèles

The Basilica Saint Denis is an amazing church filled with rows and rows of beautiful marble statuary, a veritable Who's Who of French royalty.   Many  have faithful friends, such as these, at their feet.  My friend Owen at Magic Lantern Show was our guide that day, and he has done a marvelous post on many of these as well right  HERE.  He and I seemed to have had a "foot fetish" that day.  More on that later!

Sunday Church Series - Basilica Saint Denis

Located about 5.8 miles north of Paris, the Basilica Saint Denis is noted for it's Gothic architecture and as the final resting place for most of France's kings, queens and their families from the 10-18th centuries.  As we entered the church that afternoon I stopped in awe as the sun streaming through the beautiful stained glass windows created the most amazing rainbow of colors on the walls.

Our friend Owen and his delightful wife Anne joined us that day.  He has a marvelous post with such wonderful images today at his Magic Lantern Show blog. Please drop over and see them.
