If you've been following this blog for a long time, you might remember this scene, taken in June 2010, when I happened upon two
gentlemen toting a brand new toilette home. The whole scene was so hilarious, I must have followed them for half a block quickly documenting their journey. In Paris, where many Parisians have no cars, home delivery of large items must be complicated and costly, hence... the toters.
Well what are the chances that I would happen upon another last January, again in the Marais!!! This time, a new mattress was being pushed down rue Saint Antoine! And to think that some people ask me why I return to Paris, over and over.
Hi Virginia, did they ever notice you were following them?!

What a great shot - I love that it is in black & white. Seems so...French! So fun to 'meet' another expat. Newest follower, Laura
ReplyDeleteI would never have believed you if I hadn't seen this photographer. A mattress toter! At least he could lay it down and have a kip if the toting gets exhausting.
ReplyDeleteUniquely interesting ( and funny to boot!). Great pic V!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Your timing was excellent.

I won't ask..because I know the answer. This reminds me of the time I talked my family into taking the train in from CDG airport. My children were embarrassed to be pulling a suitcase down the sidewalk when we arrived in the center of town. Silly girls..look around!
ReplyDeleteGreat Shot!
Even the deliverymen in Paris have scarves tied with panache. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is just a bit weird, if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteWould you like to borrow one of my memory cards? Mine takes colored photos.
Le voleur de matelas a encore frappé.
ReplyDeleteDeliveries must be made - interesting to see it done. Better than two guys carrying that on their heads.
ReplyDeleteI loved your comments today. I really don't think he was the delivery guy, rather just trying to get his new mattress home! I wonder how far he'd been pushing? Probably from BHV!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll say it was BHV too—and, hey, you have to admire the resourceful Parisiens! Was off in Ecuador last week, with no Internet connection. Had a great time, but I did miss my blog pals. Great to be catching up with you, V!
ReplyDeleteOui, so French! I love it!
ReplyDeleteNot an unusual sight in Europe.
ReplyDeletethat is too funny and reminds me the story of my friend who moved all her furniture from one house to the other that way in paris ...
ReplyDeleteSeulment a Paris! :)
