My, What Big Hands You Have!

This massive piece of modern sculpture, L'Écoute, by Henri Miller was placed beside Saint Eustache in 1986.  Mon amie Mary, posed to give you an idea of the enormity of this piece.  I think it's also a hit with the younger set as I will share another time.

  1. I like how the stone has been textured - very interesting. Must have taken ages to complete this piece!

  2. One could almost fit into the fingernail, and/or the mouth...I wonder how many tried that.

  3. Makes me think of King Kong holding the young lady! :o)

  6. That certainly is huge! The texture reminds me a bit of the Moai statues of Easter Island. Mary certainly looks teeny!

  9. The only time I ever took a photo of this sculpture, I had to wait for quite awhile for the kids to stop playing on it.

  12. Have you ever been there in the morning when the apartment dwellers bring their dogs for some fun? Greeting each other; chasing balls or pigeons--and the humans are fun too, chatting and catching up!

  13. This is lovely...but I bet there are those who hate it. That's the great thing about art. Can't wait to see some more.

  14. Stephanie, Oh I'd lovet that . There was a young boy and his day have so much fun that day. I have photos! :)

Starman, Oh the people add to the this rather unusual piece I think.

  15. What a cool picture! I remember how surprised I was when I saw the sculpture for the first time. Your picture from yesterday hits "home" for me because the window behind the lantern might be the apartment where I stay. I'll look for some pictures that I took from the inside looking out. You are more than welcome at Weekend Reflections anytime!

p.s. are you still trying to learn French?

  16. James Darlin, I'm ALWAYS trying to learn French. Most people there enable me and don't make me use the pitiful French I know. They probably can't stand the idea of hearing me speak their beautiful language with my southern accent.

  17. How funny. A dear friend of mine has a photo of herself, cupped in this statue's hand, on her Facebook page. I didn't know 'til now what it was.

    humongous indeed,
    shot perfectly in this perspective.

  19. Gosh that almost looks as big as the statues at Abu Simbel in Egypt, what a great shot Virginia and what a good idea of have your friend Mary pose there for contrast.
