Today's photo of the lovely Cimitière Père-Lachaise is dedicated to my Cincinnati ami Phil Nuxhall. Phil is the curator of the beautiful and well known Spring Grove Cemetery there, and he's written a new book- Beauty In the Grove: Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum. Unfortunately we didn't have Phil along on the day we visited Père Lachaise , but we had the next best thing, Mary Gilbert! Mary's a docent at Spring Grove and is quite the authority on Parisian cemeteries as well. She gave us a wonderful tour. Merci mon amie!
Everytime I see your shots of this cemetery I sigh. Just look at those cobbles for starters...sigh. Lovely shot that really draws the eye onwards and upwards.

ReplyDeleteJilly, the fact that I didn't turn my ankle on those cobbles and end up on crutches or "sticks" as our Stuart callse them, is a minor miracle. They were not only treacherous, but wet as well!
ReplyDeleteNice shot, Virg. I wonder if your friend Phil is related to Joe Nuxhall, a Cincinnati Reds pitcher, who is still the youngest person ever to play in the major leagues in the modern era.
ReplyDeleteOld cemeteries are excellet places to take pictures. This is one of the best. The winding path and black and white make a great photo.

Awwwwwwwww - you're the best Virg, we've got a real "admiration society" going on here on your blog. You do such an amazing job with composition - I adore the Greek Temple in the background, high on a hill. Phil and I can't wait for you to come back to Cincinnati for a private tour! The famous Spring Grove dogwoods will be in bloom in a couple of weeks...y'all come!
