Beaucoup des livres

No matter how many times I visit Paris, I always need a stop at Shakespeare & Company.  They always have interesting displays and customers to photograph as well.

Le chapeau violet

Shakespeare & Company

One can stay in Paris for days, weeks, months and never tire of photographing the many beautiful buildings. parks and monuments.  When I'm there, of course I love that, but what I'm always in search of are those moments when you capture an image that had you been a minute too early or too late.......you would have missed.  I think this gentleman seated behind this suitcase full of books ( which I've photographed on other trips ) was just such a shot.  Actually, I had more than a minute.  He sat through several snaps, perhaps in awe of what the crazy américain photographer was doing, and then I wandered off and came back and he was still there,  so I took that to mean I needed to give it another go.  Merci Monsieur ( looking good in that purple cap) !

Samedi Signes - Tribute

This banner hangs over the doorway at *Shakespeare & Co. as a tribute to founder George Whitman who died on Decemeber 14, 2011 at the age of 98.  He established the bookstore in 1951 and lived in a small apartment over the shop till his death.  George was quite a character. I love the photograph they chose here.

* The shop's website has a lovely tribute that you might want to see.

La Fenêtre Ouverte

If you can squeeze yourself through the throngs at Shakespeare & Company, and wind your way upstairs, you will discover some wonderful finds!  I will admit it took me three trips here to finally discover the back stairs.
