Asleep On The Job

Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, centrally located near the Eiffel Tower is a wonderful museum that I have visited several times. This day, I think we caught the guard.... off guard!
( And in case you're wondering, these were huge black lemons!)

"Where have I seen that before?"

I spotted this painting by Robert Delaunay at the Musée de art moderne, and stopped in my tracks. I have a large reproduction of this in my home, and have enjoyed it every day.

Well if you follow either of my blogs, you know how I feel about "tagging" ( a polite name for grafitti ). I think it is a disgrace and is ruining our cities. Case in point, this not so lovely courtyard. Located between the highly respected Musée de l'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Palais de Toyko, it features some beautiful sculpture and a commanding view of la Tour Eiffel. This should be one of Paris' premier showplaces. Not so. It's filled with litter, skateboarders use and abuse it on a regular basis, and the sculpture and surrounding areas have been ruined by tagging. Considering how the rest of Paris' public gardens and monuments are kept in pristine condition, it remains a mystery as to why there has not been more attention given to this public venue.

Both photos were taken from windows of the Musée de l'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. As you can see, la Tour is only a bridge away. The bottom statue appears to have escaped desecration although I can't vouch for the front of her.

Lest you think we are worn out and can't put one foot in front of the other, we jammed another day full of sights and fun. We headed out at 10 this morning and attended services at the beautiful American Cathedral on Avenue George V. I photographed this church last summer ( check the archives for previous photos). It was a wonderful experience and everyone was so friendly. We followed that with a nice lunch around the corner. After photographing "The Flame" we walked down the street to the , *Musee de lÁrt Moderne de la Ville de Paris to see the fabulous Dufy mural. We took a little more time to quickly see the permanent collection. Once done, we walked the pedestrian bridge to the Musee Quai Branley. A fairly new museum, it features the art of native civilizations around the world. What an interesting museum this is! By 4, we were tired and it was getting dark and was very cold. We hopped a bus and took the long way home, ending at the Gare du Nord, where we took the Metro home. We had a little downtime before finding dinner. It's 12:07, I'm very tired. Good Night everyone!
