I understand that Shakespeare & Co. will be closed this month for inventory. If you've ever been inside you found this laughable. How that is accomplished with any accuracy whatsoever is beyond me. This trip maybe a poke around in
The Abbey Bookshop in the Latin Quarier, also known for its English titles, will be in order. Looks like it's full to the brim with old books as well. Should be fun!
I'll do the stocktake if they want to fly me over there. Ciao J.
ReplyDeleteEasy to understand that Shakepseare would have to close for a full month. I never entered this one, but I imagine that it hardly would be easier. Hope at least one of them is open while you are here.
ReplyDeleteHa! That thought s definItely overwhelming! I would love to go with you and spend a while looking through the inventory :)
ReplyDeleteA hoarder's delight!
ReplyDeleteand very cool subject for photography! Great one!
ReplyDeleteLéia
a whole month !
ReplyDeletethey will reopen just for you, I am sure!!
Ah! Shakespeare & Co. that brings so many souvenirs – I used to stop there a lot when I was a student in the Latin Quarter. Have you read the book Shakespeare and Company by Sylvia Beach? It really gives you a feeling for the literary world in Paris in those days. I show a picture of this book on my current post on reading. Isn’t it nice that there are still so many second-hand bookstores in Paris? Independent bookstores have such a hard time in the US nowadays as people don’t read that much anymore.
ReplyDeleteCombining two of my favorite things -- France and books. What fun.
ReplyDeleteRed stool for Virginia!
ReplyDeleteOnly a month?!! :o))
ReplyDeleteLes libraires sont les amis de la libre expression. Celui-ci n'a pas effacé l'inscription, pourtant injurieuse, qui orne son mur.
ReplyDeleteI am planning a trip to France this year and Shakespeare & Co. is on my top 10 places to visit in Paris, although this Latin Quarter bookshop looks equally as charming.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!

"Shakespeare & Co. closed for inventory" That is funny.
ReplyDeleteI adore the Abbey. It doesn't have the same legacy as S&Co (what does?) but it's just as quaint.
ReplyDeleteOh this is my kind of place...I'd grab my reading glasses and peruse through the books. This would be an all day event for me and someone would have to drag me out of there too! Ha
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad Shakespeare still exists! But this one looks like a good one!
ReplyDeleteA great variation on the usual storefront photo of this icon!
ReplyDeleteThis bookshop looks very nice. Love those baskets! Did you notice the writing on the wall?
ReplyDeleteNice grafitti! Do you think S&Co. can get it done in only a month? I have my doubts, but this is an excellent alternative (and I'm sure that red stool is there just for you, V).
ReplyDeleteI love to stay in Hotel Esmeralda, just around the corner....and I'm with Alexa and Vreni; that's quite a grafitto!
ReplyDeleteBook me on that flight with Joe, I bet we'd make a great stocktaking team!! What a wonderful spot, definitely a must see.
ReplyDeletethat really is the funniest thing I have ever heard-I would pay just to see if happen.
ReplyDeleteSorry V! The only thing that jumped out at me was the graffiti in french, "Your mother is a whore," on the wall above the books.
