As we left le Reminet, I wandered ahead and found these two lovely girls enjoy a smoke and a little girl talk. I thought about taking the photo without them seeing me, but instead asked for permission and they agreed. I love their smiles!
You can tell they are giggling about the photo session... I would like to take more impromptu shots of people in the streets but am always afraid to intrude. I fear that if i ask for permission, people will start posing.... Ah the dilemma. What say you, Master? Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Portraits are best (usually) in b/w and this one is a treat. I think that once you are seen, it is best to ask permission. Well, unless they are on a balcony and you can outrun them....
Veronique, you are right, sometimes the sight of my camera puts people in pose mode. i try to just smile and chat a little and put them at ease. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I usually say just go on and do what you were doing. I hate a stiff pose with tight grin as much as you do~!
Has anyone ever been foolish enough to turn down having their portrait taken by you, V? This one's great (they all are), and I love the light and shadows here too.

ReplyDeleteI don´t smoke, but I love how people in Paris enjoy a smoke and often also a chat in the streets.

ReplyDeleteThe strong light really works here. Even though I am not a fan of black and white usually, it works nicely here.
ReplyDeleteActually the photo looks like they had no idea they were being photographed! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove them Virginia... so cute and happy together... Girl time... girl talk... it's the best... xv
ReplyDeleteI hope that they visit your blog and see the great job you did with their image.
ReplyDeleteFabulous image Virginia - I love B+W too - the shadows and how it shows the light on their hair - magic.
ReplyDeleteBut oh how the French love to smoke.....
xo

It almost looks a little retro Virginia, like it was taken in the 40's.. Love it, only French women can make smoking seem sexy oui!
ReplyDeleteNice!!! I think they're a little self conscious!!!
