It's been a while since I posted one of my *French Strangers. This last trip in January I found several. Today the friendly cook at
L'Oisive Thé et Tricot in the Butte aux Cailles neighborhood. He makes some delicous meals in that tiny little kitchen! I first heard about this delightful tea and knit shop from another Paris blog. I contacted Aimée, the charming owner via Facebook and told her to expect us in January. Mary and I had a delightful cup of tea there while I popped up and down taking photos the whole time. Not to worry, you'll meet Aimée and we'll have a longer look around the shop soon.

For you newcomers to my blog, the 100 Strangers Challenge originated on Flickr. Its purpose to challenge photographers to become more at ease approaching a stranger and asking to take their picture. I started on my B'ham blog and reached 100 long ago. I've had such fun meeting strangers in France, I took up the challenge there. I have found the French to be as warm and willing to have their photographs taken as those right here in my hometown.
Looking orward to learn more about Aimée,and love your 100 strangers challenge..Merci Colx
ReplyDeleteGreat smile! but for me, he's looking like .. an Italian! :o)
ReplyDeletea very warm shot and the place sounds most interesting...
ReplyDeleteGreat smile. We have "Tea and eat" places here, but "Tea and Knit" ?
ReplyDeleteYou are a lady who can handle many things simultaneously... I can imagine you knitting, photographing and sipping tea :-)
I am loving the idea of the 100 strangers challenge. I'm thinking it could be a great way to learn more about portrait photography. I really like this 'happy chappy'.
ReplyDeleteHis face is genuine and I'll add, genuinely handsome :)
ReplyDeletewhat a face .. love this shot
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Aproaching a stranger and asking to take their photo's. I wonder if that could work here in HOlland but I am gojng to give it a thought or more. He looks like a nice man and drink tea and knit hat's fun. I believe there are some like that here too.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
I just love your French strangers series, V—and admire your chutzpah in approaching folks. Also, to anyone who still thinks that Parisians are unfriendly, I give them Josué!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see another French Stranger photo. Well done! I hope that you have shots of the interior of this tea and knitting store for me to drool over.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a lot of changes since last we were there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot, V! I love the orange accents to the left...really nice composition for the context of the place. brava! (And very cool idea about the 100 strangers! Note to self....)
ReplyDeleteBravo, Virginia. I love the crisp focus on the man's face and his ear-to-ear grinning smile, with the blurring in front and behind. It looks like you have taken pictures before . . .
ReplyDeleteReally great photo of such a charming young man. He looks so nice that you should be well rewarded whenever you return to his shop...also I am enjoying the music while I browse your blog.
ReplyDeleteJ'ai pas tout compris; Etranger-Français, c'est quoi ?
ReplyDeleteYou find the cute ones, don't you, V! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful portrait V!!! And I agree with Shell...you do manage to find the cute ones!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! And I love the premise that it started as a way to help photographers become more comfortable asking strangers for a pose. Will have to go back and look for 1-77!

Virginia,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through your comment on my 'PostedinParis' blog on French gynos. Whew. That was long-winded. What I want to say is I love it. Living in the South of France presents me with so many photo ops..if only I could do it like you. I will try harder, read the manual, and click away.
Next time you're in the sud let me know.
