Most of you who have used the Paris Métro station Châtelet, may have never noticed these fine red stairs. Why you ask? Most likely it's because you were suffering from fatigue from all the huffing and puffing up and down, up and down, up and down the stairs to make you way through the world's largest Métro-RER station,
Châtelet- Les Halles. I've dubbed it "Metro Hell"! I like the red stairs though.

I don´t know how many times I have already used the Châtelet métro station, but I´ve never seen these red stairs! I will have to watch out for them next time (maybe in November).

ReplyDeleteIf you travel through this one often enough you discover that there are ways that prevent more than one set of these stairs. How appropriate that they are rouge!

ReplyDeleteHa! This was the first Métro station I encountered and I remember bumping along stairs and hallways and more stairs rolling my suitcase. However, I never saw these red stairs! Thank you for finding beauty there and sharing it with us. Bon weekend.

ReplyDeleteI think that arrondissement buildings and grounds department used up their extra, leftover paint on the backside of those stairs, non?
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of the Alexander McQueen stilettos that are black with bright colors under the soles and down the underside of the heel, I've only seen them because my daughter was drooling over a picture of them on the net. Excellent spotting Virginia. Happy weekend.

AFter going through this metro once, I've avoided it like the plague! Perhaps Genie will share her secrets concerning this metro.

ReplyDeleteStarman, yes I've taken the escalators when available but as memory serves, they do not take the place of all the stairs and miles of hallways one has to walk to navigate from one line to another. Throw in the RER and I still say it's HELL!

ReplyDeleteI've never noticed these red stairs! They remind me of a pair of Louboutin stilettos (just as hard to walk in those as it is to negotiate all these stairs, I would think.
ReplyDeleteVirginia, you are so right - "Metro Hell" it is. Choose the wrong exit and you may feel like "Charlie on the MTA" wandering the Paris underground forever! Easier to get off at Hotel de Ville and walk above ground so you can see where you are going.

ReplyDeleteI like your picture but always try to avoid Châtelet Les Halles.. I particularly dislike that stop.. and it is true that with a little bit of 'bonne volonté" it is usually possible to find happiness elsewhere
