The Abbey is yet another lovely little bookshop in Paris with its wares spilling out onto the sidewalk. (But it looks like someone needs to have their mouth washed out with soap! Tsk, tsk.) Since 1989, it is another Parisian source for English language books from around the world.

Ha! I remember my Mom threatening my brother & I with that very same idea! I can't imagine what it was we said...
ReplyDeleteI love bookstores such as this. Great shot Virginia.
A veritable treasure chest Virginia, although most of the books will probably be in French, no matter, just looking and soaking up the atmosphere would be fine!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot. Love this kind of small shops.. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
It's certainly overflowing ~ I wonder if they have a hard time squooshing it all back in every night.
ReplyDeleteI believe I was there on my last day in Paris....bargains galore on that day!!! Anita
ReplyDeleteI would love to spend some time inside that store. I'm rather surprised it looks so unkempt on the outside though.

A book lover's dream! It would be fun to squeeze through there!
ReplyDeleteI bet there are treasures to be found in there. But, gosh that building is eye candy...I can imagine it being an elegant restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI love visiting this kind of shop!Great photography!

I bet there's a wonderful old book smell to the place ..
ReplyDeleteI love saying the name of this street as it just rolls off the tongue. I love this building and the books stacked high over the transom window.
ReplyDeleteTreasures in there. And outside.
ReplyDeleteLove the carved wall also.

I did not know that Abbey. Thank you Virginia. Lovely picture too, in spite of the graffitti. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteMy kind of place.
ReplyDeleteI could spend an entire day here!
ReplyDeleteI am so passionate about books and so is my hubby and son thank goodness!! Love the old building!
That's no way to talk about somebody's mother.
ReplyDeleteI love book stores; I love beautiful stone walls; I love balconies; and I love old doors. The color tones in this photo are just right. No matter the cluttered look.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not wash their mouths out with soap but certainly their pens!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like treasure trove...too bad I don't read French. But I believe I'd still enjoy browsing here.
ReplyDeleteI blew this up to see the other "message"—this person needs to have their mouth washed out twice! Gave me a good laugh though. And the place looks (otherwise) absolutely charming.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to pore over the books in search for treasure.
ReplyDeleteso quaint!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUn véritable paradis... (dommage pour les écrits sur le mur)
ReplyDeleteGros bisous
Wow, so many books!!! And I love those baskets!
ReplyDeleteI wonder where that expression comes from: bad language being punished by having one's mouth washed out with soap. Did it ever actually occur?
ReplyDeleteLove the arches ... and the colours.
