If you're a Parisian gardener with a lot of pruning experience , I'm thinking you've got some job security. Everywhere you look in Paris, you will find these finely manicured shrubs. And the tree trimming army need not worry about a lay off either!
Gosh, they are so precise, I thought the ones in the first photo were cardboard cutouts for a sec! Beautiful shots, V!!

ReplyDeleteRe «Louis'» comment that the landscaping in Jardin des Tuileries was done by Le Nôtre père, Le Nôtre fils did first Vaux-le-Vicomte, then Versailles.

ReplyDeleteDid you notice in the Tuileries photo, the tops of the trees have been cut to exactly the same size? It's illegal to trim the tops of trees in Wilton Manors.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever seen the gardeners, tree trimmers at work? I've been in Paris on numerous occasions and have yet to see this work being done.

ReplyDeleteTHe banner photo was over a doorway very close to Galeries des Gobelins. Lovely isn't it! And about the pruners extraordinaire. I was thinking about it last night and no, I"ve never seen them at work. I am envisioning men with coal miner hats with lights on them nipping away at the shrubbery with fingernail scissors! :) They have to do it at night, you never see it in the day!

I took that bottom photo on my first trip at TUileries. It has fascinated me ever since as to how they get that high and manage to keep them at exactly the same height!
These are great shots, Virginia. I especially love the square trees in the Palais Royal and also in the garden directly behind Notre Dame (where I actually have seen a tree trimmer at work).
