I just just love this tiny cobblestoned walkway that leads you to the side entrance of the beautiful * Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis in le Marais. The light dusting of snow that morning made it even more special. I've been inside three times, and I never tire of it. 
Adore the Marais. This is a beautiful shot - and that lamplight draws the eye in. So gorgeous. All that wonderful old stone. Ah Paris!

This post made me take out my Paris map book to remind myself just exactly where this church is (V, I'll bet you carry l'Indispensable with you at all times too). And that made me take a "walk" around the neighborhood—and that made me extra homesick for Paris. But thanks (I think) for this lovely image.

The front doors are impressive as well. The outside of this church in front, is quite dark. I suspect it's never had a rejuvenation.

ReplyDeleteThere is a school, lycée Charlemagne, attached to the church. In WWI, a German bomb fell in the school yard, killing several of the children. Behind the church is rue Charlemagne where one may see some remnants of the walls of one of the châteaux (as in forts) that had been built as an outer defense ring around Paris. At one time, this part of town was not officially part of Paris, being located outside of the walls containing the city.
Now this is my idea of Paris.
ReplyDeleteLouis la Vache is referring to the Philippe Auguste wall, built around 1200. This is where what is left of the wall can be best seen!
