For the Love!

This should clear up the question as to how I managed to walk "Peter's Paris Marathon" for most of the summer and didn't waste away to nothing! ( Didn't even come close, grrrrr) Window displays like this one at Gerard Mulot, might give you a clue. Oh what's a girl to do?

  1. Oh, the temptation. I took many photos of the pastry in the windows but resisted the temptation. I planned to indulge before I left and then ran out of time so never did eat any.
With all the walking and trying to keep up with Peter, I lost just a bit over 7 lbs. Of course I've put it back on since I've been back.
I will definitely taste this next trip.
    Count down: 20 days.

  2. I'm facing a lot of that down here too (and without the benefit of Peter's marathons). Yup, I'm in trouble!

  4. Yep, I'm a little nervous about my next trip. I'm a stone sucker for a Ladurée palmier -- I could eat them morning, noon, and night if allowed.

  5. StyleSpy,
Well tell us what a Laurée palmier is? I can put away a macaron or two but never heard of this.

    Karen,
Actually those desserts weren't my real downfall although I was persuaded to order dessert more than I normally would. It was the BAGUETTES and the VIN et Champagne! If I ihad it to do over again, I'd indulge the same way. I'm off bread and desserts now and walking 3-4 miles a day so it's coming back off but I still drool when I see a good baguette! And I limited myself on the macarons as much as possible. I ended up at CHarles de Gaulle with two smushed ones in my bag. I ate 'em!

  7. Harriet,
Oh i"ve got the book, "French Women Don't Get Fat". I'll fill you in. I'm pretty sure they pass right on by Gerard Mulot's and keep on walking, walking, walking, walking. Darn!

  8. Just looking at the picture is enough at least for the soul if not for the stomach!

  9. Palmiers are the simplest of treats -- puf pastry rolled into the form of hearts and then dusted with sugar before they're baked. (Comme ça: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Sweet-Palmiers-106763 I love them in general, but the ones made at Ladurée are especially wonderful -- I don't know exactly what magic they perorm, but they are far more than the some of their very simple parts.

  10. StyleSpy,
Thanks for the info. Sorry I missed one of those! Harriet sent me a link to Parisbreakfast.com. She had a great post on these back in April. So many delights in Paris, so little time. La sigh!

  11. Lucky me, my metabolism is very good (not great like it used to be, but good none-the-less) so I'll pop in and buy a few.

  13. Mmmm - I love Gerard Mulot! I have it marked on my little Paris map so I always know where to find it. You've managed to capture quite a few yummy cakes in this delicious photo. Just 3 more weeks and I'll be there!
