You Won't Believe Where I Went Today..... To The Dome of the Sacre Coeur!

Behold the power of peer pressure! When you get four photobloggers together, the stakes get high. Today Peter and I met up with Janet ( DC Confidential) and Maya ( Maya Photography) for a stroll through Montmartre. We hadn't been at the Sacre Coeur 10 minutes when talk of climbing to the dome started. Since I was the only one who had previously made the climb, I wasn't too keen on reliving that hellacious trek. However, when the other three applied a little friendly pressure, I caved and showed them the way. Once we all reached the top, there was a photographing frenzy!!! I' m quite proud of my accomplishments and am now going to take a handful of ibuprofen and say bonne nuit!
PS After we finished there, we walked all over Montmartre, ate a delicious dinner at La Coupole and ended the evening by walking over to the Louvre and taking night photos. Have mercy!

P
Thanks to Maya for taking these photos as proof that we made it!

  1. I love these photos! Thanks for making the climb for all of us who are making this trip vicariously through your lens.

I think you were up very late, n'est-ce pas??? Merci beaucoup pour le post!

  2. Oh, not again! Well, you can't visit it too much, as long as you don't have to walk up the hill. The framing and composition of the top shot is just perfect.

  5. Petrea,
Janet and Maya came down from Geneva , where they are both working, on Friday for a short visit. We are off again today. I have a feeling we will be moving a little slower than yesterday! We had a very very late night as Harriet noted!

  8. Checking your blog is on my list daily each morning. Outstanding photos from Sacre Coeur. Where is the restaurant you mentioned? Was is possibly the famous brasserie La Couple? Also, have you seen that most restaurants are lowering their prices with the lowering of the TVA (value-added tax) on 1 July?

  9. I don't think I'm ever going to try that climb.

ParisBob - the brasserie is La Coupole.

  10. Merci! I think I deserve the accolades for my endurance ,not necessarily my photos. My dear blog friends deserve some praise for getting me there! It was great fun and I SWEAR this is my last trip to the top! ha

  11. Oh, accolades for the photos too. Given my history, I'm sure I would have raced to the top and fallen on the way down.

  12. Pardon!
I misspelled the name of the restaurant and have hopefully corrected the error. Please chalk it up to delayed oxygen deprivation coupled/coupoled with very late blogging practices - a deadly duo! HA

    AH
I neither raced up or down. There was whining involved along with great celebration when I reached the pinnacle.

  14. V - I hope along with the whining there was also some wine-ing as the evening went on.

  15. It's the one time I'm proud I was part of a peer-pressure situation! ;-) I'm really glad we all did that together. It will be one of my loveliest memories from Paris.

As for the photo of me, ugh.

  17. Hi, I cannot remember how I found your blog, but I put it in my favourites to have a peak at now and again..

I love the climb up to sacre Coeur...my friend and I went to Paris in April for a bloggers meet, and on one our days out, just my friend and I, we went there ...it was fab..we went back the next day to see the Artists square...which was amazing.

here is a link to my photos if you would like to have a look!

  19. What a great day that was. The climb wasn't as bad as I expected (except for the claustrophobia part). The view from up there is worth every step!

  20. @Petrea: Hello!

@Janet: I'm sure I can find a better one of you somewhere...

@Virginia: Don't think we won't make you go up again! HA (to use your own words)

  21. Hah! Don't blame you for hesitating a repeat climb! I marveled at the amount of wear monks sandals had made in those stone steps. Amazing vista from the top, and worth the effort, though a time or two I was afraid my camera bag and I would be stuck enroute!
