In WWI, a German bomb fell in the school yard, killing several of the children. Behind the church is rue Charlemagne where one may see some remnants of the walls of one of the châteaux (as in forts) that had been built as an outer defense ring around Paris. At one time, this part of town was not officially part of Paris, being located outside of the walls containing the city.Louis la Vachehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09039777863022193315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8865814823931525026.post-15438382882325700642010-02-01T18:51:23.504-06:002010-02-01T18:51:23.504-06:00Owen, it's a nice church I think. This post made me take out my Paris map book to remind myself just exactly where this church is (V, I'll bet you carry l'Indispensable with you at all times too). And that made me take a "walk" around the neighborhood—and that made me extra homesick for Paris.
