Olivia

Today we meet Olivia Clétienne, who does restorative work in her studio at Village Saint Paul in the Marais.  I took several shots before she heard the click of my camera but was kind enough to allow more photos.

Paris Rouge - la Tasse

As I came around the corner of Village Saint Paul in the Marais, I spotted the red cup first then the artist painting in the doorway. You will meet her tomorrow.

Le chien de la boutique

Tucked away in Le village St. Paul, you'll find Cassiopée and Co.   This beautiful antique store specializes in silver and crystal.  The owner's pup was sound asleep and hardly lifted an eye when I took a zillion  photos!

Deux Amis

While strolling through Village St. Paul, I came upon these two students from the nearby Lycée Charlamagne enjoying their lunch break.  I asked the girl if I could take her photograph,  and she agreed but asked if her friend could be included. Bien sûr!!

Boutiques Parisiennes Series - Au Passe-Partout

Tucked away in the Marais, is an interesting little shop specializing in antique keys, corkscrews, knives, and locks. The owner, M. Mark Feldman is a bit of an expert and has written a book on keys that he proudly showed me.  This is one of those tiny little specialty shops that make Paris such a delightful place to wander and discover.

Meet the Artist

Olivia Clétienne is a painter of animals ( and apparently other things) and does restoration work in a small studio in the Village St. Paul area of the Marais.  I photographed her two years ago, but Monsieur Google assures me that she's still there.  I loved capturing her working in the open door of her studio.  She heard the click of my camera and turned but was kind to let me continue photographing her.

Paris Rouge - Le godet de l'artiste

I discovered the artist painting in a doorway at the Village St. Paul in the Marais.  Her rouge paint can caught my eye.  Tomorrow you will meet the artist herself.

Le garçon

While poking around the Village St. Paul in the Marais one afternoon, I glanced up and spotted this boy and his schoolmates.  I think they might have been to the Académie de Magie just down the street. Except for the sneakers, a timeless photograph I think.

La brocante

Sometimes when I'm in Paris, the very special places I like to haunt for photos, often  surprise me.  It's no secret that le Marais is one of my favorite places to visit, eat, photograph.... even stay.  Last January  Mary and I took a spin through the Villages St. Paul and found an added delight......a brocante!  These linens caught my eye......but not my pocketbook. I''m having second thoughts!

La Danse des Chaises

Late one afternoon as I snooped around the Village St. Paul, they were bringing the chairs in for the evening.  I snapped these delightfully colored chairs right before they were stacked away for the night.

En Hiver Et En Été

Today I take a break from the holiday photos on my Birmingham blog and thought I'd do so here as well. I found this little café at the Village St. Paul last January and again this past June. Vive la différence!

Field Trip, Paris Style

While poking around the shops at Village St. Paul, I spotted this schoolboy at the end of this corridor. He and his friends were giggling and playing, so I walked through to see what they were up to. I found this gaggle of students with their teacher, just leaving the Academie de Magie, balloon animals and all! Shown here previously.

100 French Strangers Challenge - L'artiste

French Stranger #68

The Village St. Paul in the Marais is not only a treasure trove of interesting shops, but I found several "strangers" as well. Meet Olivia Clétienne, an artist who does original and restorative work. Today two photographs that caught my eye when I approached her studio. That red bucket on the old paint spattered chair caught my eye as well as the fact that she was standing in the doorway painting. She heard the click of my shutter and turned, so I walked up and talked with her for a few minutes. I have another photograph that I liked of her as well. I'll share it another day.

A Charming Courtyard - Village St. Paul

This last trip was the first time that I've had the opportunity to just stroll my neighborhood by myself and explore the little nooks and crannies that make Paris so very special. Don't get me wrong, I dearly love experiencing Paris with my Paris loving family and friends. I think Paris is best shared with others, but it's also fun once and while to just strike out on your own and see what you can find.

There is an area of the Marais called the Village - St. Paul. It's a series of charming little shops and cafes, often tucked into tiny courtyards, that hold some wonderful surprises. When I wandered in this lovely place, I found this interesting chair and a table that looked as if an artist had just left. Along the wall were these colorful photographs. I might have bought one, but alas, noone was around. I made myself at home of course!
