Le Rubis
A few years ago while enjoying a leisurely day alone in Paris, I passed by Le Rubis and remembered a fine boeuf bourguignon I'd enjoyed there once. I decided to try it again. I was shown a door at the end of the bar and discovered a tiny ( of course), winding (of course) stairway. At the top I walked through what appeared to be a make shift kitchen but it could have been the one and only. I found a small dining room lined with tables. I squeezed onto a banquette, shed my coat, camera, bag and tried not to look like a harried tourist. I fooled not a soul. The sweet, overworked waitress informed me that I had to read the menu off the chalkboard on the wall. So the whole process went in reverse. I could hardly read it and so with our limited use of each other's language, I decided on the "peeg" with lentils. It turned out to be what we would call ham. Very pink and tender with a sea of lentils topped with a pat of butter. This is what David Leibowitz called "earthy French food" in his review. It's worth the read.
Le Rubis is the type of cafe you want to run up on in Paris. The same couple is always behind the bar and the food is always honest and hearty.

I Love This Place
It's been a few years since Mary and I trekked to the charming Butte aux Cailles neighborhood to find L'Oisive Thé. Owned by an American, this lovely shop combines yarn and knitting supplies with a thé and coffee shop offering delicious breakfast and lunch offerings made in the tiniest kitchen I"ve ever seen!

Paris Rouge - Seul
This sweet playground at the Jardin du Luxembourg, seemed a little sad this fall morning without the petits enfants bringing it to life.

Paris Rouge - Saint Augustin
Located in the 8th arrondissement, Église Saint-Augustin is a beautiful but often overlooked church. You know what caught my eye!

Paris Rouge - SOLDES!
If you are lucky enough to be in Paris in January or July, you can take advantage of the huge city wide soldes (SALES!). Here, BHV ( Bazarre Hôtel de Ville), one of Paris' largest department stores unfurls their bright red banners.
Some of you have inquired about a Paris Rouge book. Check the sidebar for my first Paris Rouge offering. Who knows, maybe the sequel is in the making!

Paris Rouge - L'homme à la Comédie`Française
Taken at the Palais Royal in 2012 when la Comeedie-Française had relocated during the renovation.
I think I"ll do a little Paris Rouge mini series for the next few days. It's been fun finding new photos!

Bons souvenirs
Remembering a glass of wine at Ma Bourgogne, at Place des Vosges on a June afternoon. The birds watched from the lamp post in hopes of a morsel of my bread.

Beaucoup d'argent !
I have stepped into Alexa's boutique at Place des Vosges many times over the years. We've never really made friends, but he's always allowed me to wander around and photograph his elegant, over the top ballgowns that he designs and makes right there. He usually turns away and reads his phone and basically ignores me. I"m OK with that. Now those bracelets... j'aie envie!!!
