Orange et ocre

On a gray drizzly day in Marly le Roi, the ochre walls and orange shutters brightened this quaint little town.

Le modèle

I will admit I stalked this lovely young woman and her photographer from the park to this passageway at Place des Vosges.  I was enchanted with not only her natural beauty but her hair.  I just had to get one last snap before I walked away.

Art Appreciation

There are many art galleries lined up on this end of the Place des Vosges. I often wonder how they all stay open, as most people seem to be just window shopping like this gentleman.

Sunday Church Series - Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois

This is one of the most beautiful churches in Paris in my opinion.  While we were there we were able to hear the bells which I regret I was unable to capture with my phone.  I took this photograph from across the street as we left the Louvre.  The sculpture in the foreground is Hautes Herbes, by Beatrice Guichard.

Familiar Places

I stop by Ma Bourgogne overlooking the park at Place des Vosges every trip. This past January, Mary and I came screeching in for something warm to drink (for a change) in the afternoon of our last day.  It was nice enough to sit right here. La vie est belle.

The Last Sunset

I was lucky enough to be walking down rue de la Paix towards Place Vendôme my last afternoon in Paris.  Très belle!

Chopin

Frederic Chopin's grave at Père Lachaise is lovely in its own right but this red rose left as a tribute made it even more beautiful. I hope my pianist friend Michael Dulin will be happy now that I've paid my respects!

Signes du Samedi - Vert Absinthe

Those of you that know me well, or just know my chat noir Meeps, will know why I stopped here and took a lot of shots. As a matter of fact, I have this very poster!

Le memento

As I've visited more and more Paris cemeteries, I've been drawn to the flowers that are often left tucked in the grillwork of mausoleum doors. At Père Lachaise recently, I photographed a number of them but this one was my favorite.  The colors and the dried fronds were pleasing to me.

Charmant

These pretty little café windows might have been painted for Christmas.  Even though the paint was fading, I thought it added a cheerful touch.

Les Petits Patineurs

Granted this photograph is not well composed, but I think it gives a true flavor of the skating rink at the Hôtel de Ville.  The smallest were scooting all over as best the could,  holding onto the wooden walls or pushing the cute and colorful little scooters!  The city had kindly provided an area just for the little ones so they could get around without being run over by the more accomplished skaters.

For my Birmingham AL area readers, I'll be teaching From Snapshots to Photographs again starting the end of this month at Samford University. Please join us!

Nicky and Florence

Last week while in Paris, Mary and I took the train from Gare Lazare to  Vaucresson, in the Paris burbs.  There we were met by blogger Nicky Berry and her jeune fille Florence.  I've followed Nicky's delightful blog Growing Berries, almost since she started it as a way to chronicle her family's new adventures living in France.  After lunch in their beautiful home, she drove us to Marly le Roi for a walkabout and photo bonanza.  It is always so much fun to meet other bloggers here and in France.  Merci Nicky and Florence for a lovely day with you both.

Café Nemours, one of my favorite haunts for wine or lunch at Place Colette, did not make the cut for the Paris Marathon this trip, but I did get this shot as we breezed past it last week!

The view of the church from our living room window in our apartment. I never, ever tire of the view or the chiming of the bells.

I'm Home!

Marly le Roi, France

I am home from a wonderful nine days in Paris. Thank you all who faithfully stopped by and those that left comments while I was away.  I have many, many new photographs to share with you.

Today's photo is my Paris travel amie, Mary Gilbert.  About a year ago she started carrying a little Nikon point and shoot and has captured some very nice shots.  She has a great eye.  I think I created a monster.  Now as you can see, SHE'S the one lagging behind taking photos instead of me!!
