Curve Appeal

There's a café on every corner in Paris, so the competiion is fierce.  This place might have a leg up on the others! "Only in Paris," as I like to say!

Doors in France I

LE MARAIS
Recently a decorator requested a series of doors in France for a client.  As I began gathering them together for her, I realized how many I had accumulated and not shared with you. So, here you have the first in my new series, Doors in France! I fell in love with the colors here.

Sunday Church Series - Église Saint Jean l'Evangéliste

Recently I exhibited some of my work at Independent Presbyterian Church's Religious Arts Festival. I wish I knew more about this statue in the Église Saint Jean l'Evangéliste in Montmartre. Perhaps some of my readers will add some information.  I was just taken by this lovely statue.

The church is located on Place des Abbesses and was the first concrete (bricks) church in Paris, built in 1904.  Its architecture is described as art nouveau and Byzantine and is far less ornate than most churches in Paris that I've seen. It has been nicknamed "Notre-Dame-des-briques".  Clearly the architecture of this particular church was not well received by many.

Don't You Step On My Purple ( Red, Green ) Suede Shoes!

I love the window displays in Paris. Sometimes the sheer creativity stops me in my tracks. Other times it's just the outrageous offerings that I don't think I'd ever see back here in Birmingham, Alabama!  For the record, I've not spotted anyone in Paris sporting purple suede shoes!

Here's what Elvis has to say.

Le Petit Zinc

Today my guest photographer is Allan Gray.  Allan and I met when he wrote to ask me for some apartment suggestions in Paris for his next trip.  After a few emails, we discovered that we share the same addiction....Paris!  Imagine that.  Allan kindly shared this photo of one of his favorite places, le Petit Zinc, in the 5eme near Deux Maggot.  I do believe I peered in at the great zinc bar on my trip in November '08!  Now after hearing his recommendation, I'm adding it to my next "Must Do" list.

I'm including a photo of Allan. He captioned it: "Outside of 'Little Italy' on rue Rambuteau wondering why I don't live here." I laughed and told him I have had the same thought many, many times!

Merci Allan,  for giving me the day off and sharing your photos with us

Printemps à Paris?

Well non.  I've never had the pleasure of experiencing avril in Paris, so this is a little stretch.  This charming flower shop near rue Mouffetard was on our beaten path to and from the Metro the summer of '09.  Brings back some sweet memories pour moi!

It's not avril in Paris just yet but go ahead and enjoy this tune

This day Mary and I met our Paris friends Lucy and Anne Hervier, at a charming cafe near rue Mouffetard.  These friends dined near the window. I couldn't resist.

Jour du Macaron VI

Only the French would dedicate a day to the delightfully scrumptious confection...le macaron!  Pierre Hermé started this lovely day in 2005 and of course it continues.  It's no secret that I'm a huge fan.  I just regret that I'm not in Paris today with my macaron expert Genie au'jourd hui!

One Euro, One Euro, One Euro...

As much as I love to stand and gaze up at la Tour Eiffel, these incessant souvenir vendors detract from the ambiance I want to savor!  The only way I've found to keep them at bay is to point my camera in their direction. I've been cursed in French many times, and for once I'm happy my grasp of the language is so poor!

Blog emergency: Our friend Peter at Peter's Paris needs some help. Last night, his blog of 3 years disappered! If you have any expertise or can offer advice email me and I"ll pass it on to Peter.

Courez! Courez!

Today I take you back again to the Buren Columns at the Palais Royale.  This last day in Paris,  I captured so many images that I love. I hope you won't tire of them.

Trois Coeurs Pour Toi

In an effort to get this blog back on track, today we visit Cimetière de Passy.  I must say that this small but beautiful place might just be my favorite cemetery in all of Paris.   I think it might be overlooked by many visitors to Paris, but put it on your list. These stones, left by loved ones, touched my heart.  As I looked over my photographs last night, this was a photo I honestly didn't remember taking.  Another reason why I love sharing my photos each day with you.

Risky Business

Only in Paris!

My friend Genie, at Paris and Beyond,( double dog) dared me to run this photo.  I debated and then decided that you all depend on me to bring you a slice of Paris each and every day and this certainly is!  I tossed around the idea of letting you write your own title but thought better of it!  I know you'll want to know if the glacé lived up to its name, but alas, the shop was closed. Quelle dommage.  Perhaps I can get a dear Paris friend to ship me a case of it! :)

Le Carrousel - Tuileries

I do believe I've identified another Paris fetish.......carrousels!  This one taken on a very gray, drizzly day on a walk through Tuileries.  I photographed it here on my first trip in 2007.

I am not a huge fan of the Centre Pompidou, but I'll have to admit, I fell in love with that red escalator at night!

Vingt-cinq

3rd Arrondisement

Why on earth would you buy a brand new door when you can just keep patching up the old one! I rather like the patchwork "panes".

Today's post of for all of my Paris Door Lovers that I've neglected of late.

100 French Strangers - The Shop Owner

French Stranger #74

Mary, Richard and I wandered into Librairie Scaramouche from Passage Molière and Richard was right, a real treasure trove it was. Filled to the brim with vintage posters, postcards, books and movie paraphernalia.  Monsieur behind the counter gave me a rather blasé look when I snapped the first photograph,  but I wandered around and came back and this time I don't think he minded so much.  Is that just a hint of a smile???

How delightful to be able to skate along the Seine on a Sunday morning, with la Tour Eiffel in the distance!  Paris, j'adore.

Tamano

Oh I LOVE  this charming little sign with the chartreuse storefront and the obligatory lantern advertising ....CHASSURES! I'm still shaking my head over the fact that Mary and I  (shoe lovers extraordinaire) didn't step inside and have a look!

Paris Rouge XLIII - Afterthought

There are times when I take a photograph, and after I download it to my computer, I find a smaller image that I like even more. Case in point. I photographed the entrance to the famous  Boutique Maille,  but when I had a second look, I liked this smaller vignette, especially the light on the enclosed poster.

Sunday Church Series - The Players

As evening fell I sat outside with a cup of espresso, grateful for the outdoor heater.  I could have found a table inside but would not have been able to enjoy this informal game of soccer on the Place Stravinsky.  The side of the beautiful Église Saint-Merri was an interesting backdrop.

French Comics???

I must be honest. I took this shot because I found the wall art funky and fun, no other reason. On closer inspection last evening,  I noted what appears to be the name of the artist, Tardi ( Jacques Tardi), a French cartoonist.  At the bottom the word Futuropolis led me to a Google search here.  Perhaps I should be more attentive to the reasearch on this blog, but often this whole thing happens late, and I do what I can. Perhaps I can ratchet up the southern charm and get Peter to see what he can uncover. I'm just betting he will find some answers!

A View J'adore!

As we made our way down from Montmartre that afternoon, we gasped at this spectacular view. The dome of  les Invalides sparkles in the distance.  I love the rooftops and chimney pots!

Après les Heures - Boulangerie Paul

I just love to find unexpected photos like this one.  The baker cleans up after hours at one of Paris' most famous boulangeries, Paul .
