Today's Sunday Church Series takes us back to the lovely
Église St. Madeleine. I'm featuring this photograph because I think it illustrates the immense size ( 33' high X 15' wide), as well as the bas reliefs of the Ten Commandments on these magnificent
bronze doors. (Taken in November 2008, you can see the renovation scaffolding as well.)

33' high, that is 3 stories... A wonderful documentary of it.
You really picked the perfect angle to communicate those massive dimensions! Great work.
I'm still grasping the enormity of those doors, V. Quite glorious.
Great lighting on the door, Virginia, and the angle of your shot enhances the dimensions. Nice detail in the panels.
What a detailed door! The angle is really magnificent in this image.
Ps. I love your "mot du jour" on the side of your blog. It's a new feature, non?
Thank you all. Actaully I can't b elieve I still had this photo. I didn't like the scaffolding in the corner but decided the doors are so grand I'd post it anyway.
Brittany,
Genie found it and I copied. I love it because I can make that lady say it over and over ! :)
Wow! how on earth do they manage to open these monsters? They're fantastic! Such detail and beauty.
Very well composed and great light! Another example of how Parisians are able to take the mundane and make it a work of art! Sometimes it seems we do the opposite - take a work of art and make it mundane. :-)
I love your new header..gorgeous flowers!!
I'm going to move to Paris and see if I can get the job of door opener/closer here at St. Madeleine—that exercise would keep you in shape, I'd think!
Oh Virg, this is superb
